On a lark, I decided to enter a contest over at Adam Roberts’s The Amateur Gourmet, where contestants had to submit their funniest true waiter-related story. And lo and behold, I was actually chosen as one of the ten winners for my anecdote involving me and my now-wife having dinner at Mesa Grill in New York City back in 2000, a shortened account of which can be read here (skip down to the 4th paragraph, the one talking about the coffee).
The prize? A copy of the new book Waiter Rant: Thanks for the Tip—Confessions of a Cynical Waiter, culled from the snarky and oftentimes hilarious blog by the same name.
That was on Monday. By Tuesday, I had been contacted by Mark at Ecco (the book’s publisher) for a delivery address. And incredibly, by Friday the book was in my hands.
So thanks (again) to Adam and Mark! And thanks (again) to my sweetie for pretty much handing me the winning story. :-)
